Does the thought of a dental appointment make your palms sweat? If so, you are not alone. For many, dental anxiety is a real and significant barrier to getting the care they need. At StoneRidge Dental Care, we believe everyone deserves a healthy smile without fear or stress. Our experienced team—led by Dr. Amit Patel, Dr. Chuck Conkey, and Dr. Susan Murphy-Moberger—is dedicated to making your visit as comfortable as possible. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry to our community in Gahanna, Columbus, and New Albany.
Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It’s a safe and effective way to transform your dental experience from one of anxiety to one of calm. This approach allows you to remain conscious and responsive but in a deep state of relaxation, often with little to no memory of the procedure afterward.
Reasons to Consider Sedation Dentistry
You might be a great candidate for sedation dentistry if you experience:
- High levels of fear or anxiety about dental visits
- A history of traumatic dental experiences
- Difficulty getting numb with local anesthetic
- An overactive or sensitive gag reflex
- A need for extensive or complex dental work in a single visit
- Extreme tooth sensitivity
By easing your anxieties, we can often complete more necessary treatment in a single, comfortable appointment. This saves you time and helps you get your oral health on track more efficiently.
Our Sedation Options at StoneRidge Dental Care
We provide personalized care and will help you choose the sedation method that best fits your health needs and comfort level. Our team monitors you closely throughout your entire visit to ensure your complete safety and well-being.
Nitrous Oxide
Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that you inhale through a small mask over your nose. It induces a feeling of light-headedness and relaxation almost immediately. You’ll feel at ease but remain fully awake and able to communicate. The effects wear off just as quickly once the mask is removed, allowing you to drive yourself home safely after your appointment. This option is ideal for patients with mild anxiety or those undergoing shorter procedures.
Halcion Oral Sedation
For patients with more moderate anxiety, we offer oral sedation with a prescribed medication called Halcion. You will take a pill about an hour before your procedure begins. While you will still be awake, you will enter a deeper state of relaxation. Many patients feel sleepy and have little memory of the treatment itself. Because the effects are longer-lasting, you will need a trusted friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment.
Your Comfort is Our Priority
Don’t let dental fear keep you from achieving a healthy, confident smile. The team at StoneRidge Dental Care is here to support you. If you live in Gahanna, Columbus, or New Albany and think sedation dentistry could be right for you, we invite you to schedule a consultation. We’ll warmly welcome you, listen to your concerns, and create a care plan that puts your comfort first.
